Tales Of An Imperfectly Perfect Girl
I was checked into the hostel by the house captain, and was also checked into a dormitory, between all the screams of “I want her to be my bunkie”, but, the house captain is not one to be controlled. She knew what she wanted to do, I was taken to dorm 3 and I was told I have a Tobi Omotosho as my bunk-mate. She wasn’t around though, so I just sat there hoping she’d be a pleasant person. Because, If she’s not, I thought to myself, “I might just have to tell the house captain I don’t feel good about my bunk-mate.” One after the other, my dorm mates were coming in, and they were all pleasant, with the “new girl” drill, asking series of questions and a welcoming smile. At least I was liking them already. Then, there was this silence as looked towards the main dormitory entrance.
I looked in their direction and I saw an average height young but older girl, with a beautiful slim and dark skin, her hair neatly cut, but, she was wearing the most confused look on her face, while she stared in my direction, her eyes on my bed. Then I heard voices “Senior Tobi welcome”, despite her look, she replied with a smile. There and then I liked her, she’s not a snub, they are my least favorite people. She walked in my direction, sat down on the lower bed and I greeted her, then she asked “I’m guessing you own the mattress on my bunk?” I said yes, and next I heard was “I thought I told Esther I don’t want a bunkie” . Right there I withdrew my likeness for her. “What kind of a person says that in the presence of a new girl, who just left her home to the midst of strangers?”. I mean there were other new girls in this same dorm who were not feeling that way, because their bunkmates were welcoming. I felt rejected, but I just stared at her while she walked away shouting..Esther! Other dorm mates were trooping in, and they were silently watching the mini drama.
In the next few minutes, she was back. She said, “I’m Tobi Omotoso, I’m in SS 3, how about you?”. I told her my name. The next thing I knew, she was adjusting her locker to arrange my things next to hers, my bed was properly laid. Then she called one of her juniors, told her, “Bashirah, I’m sure you’ve met my bunkie, take care of her, they must not punish her”. Oh my! Who goes from dragon to dolphin in a very short time? Ok! Need I say I doubled my likeness in return? Instantly! *lol, I get easily impressed with certain situations”. I later got to find out, it wasn’t like she never really wanted a bunkmate. She’s just a mother hen kind of person, she takes care of her own and she wasn’t sure she wanted to do that after a long while alone.
But she never stopped being sweet, she was a God sent, my dorm was full of pleasant people. My bunkmate and Senior Bashirah(her school sister and two years junior), topped the list. I enjoyed every moment I spent with them. The first prep was that night, since the new girls had no class yet, we had to put in with our seniors, so I went with my bunkie to her class, where they discovered me in no time! Discovered that I dance, I danced that night before prep started. And I found myself a school mother, Senior Miberon Mosimabale, and a lot of senior friends. I mean leave the dance out, I’m very charming and I’m likely to steal your heart away in 15 minutes if you sit with me. No, I’m not money, everyone can’t like me or agree with me, but who doesn’t want a touch of awesomeness in their lives? The prep ended, we trooped to our various hostels and after a while, my school mother came to my hostel to call me, with two other new girls, Tosin and Fifunmi. We went to her hostel. It was fun while we were there, we met other seniors who made us feel at home yet terrified of what we were bound to face. When it was time for lights out, we were taken to our various hostels.
What were they terrified about for us? Find out next week
