My Gold Pen

BOND

Comfort- that’s her name. The lemon chair- that’s her favorite spot. Her name is not just a mere nomenclature, rather, it bears the very significance in its deeper meaning. She is my comfort, my ever gallant shoulder to lean on, my ever standing pillar to rest on. I could go on and on about how much of a blessing she is to me but I would rather not be boastful. About the lemon chair, ‘what a weird colour’, I said to myself once again as if I was new to her weird taste. I smiled to myself, reminding myself once again of how blessed I am to have her.

I could have dated Comfort if things weren’t just as complicated as it is. She is my best friend no doubt, but dating her is the one step I have never been bold enough to take, yet, her every relationship gets me furious, although I always pretended to be happy for her, or better still I’ll say I always tried to be happy for her, because she always seemed happy with them.

I stepped into full view for her to notice me and when she did, she simply chuckled (or so I thought) and looked away almost immediately, avoiding eye contacts with me. I began moving closer to her to give her my significant kiss on her forehead. ‘I adore her’, I said to myself but her voice stopped me from moving any closer, making me completely numb.

‘Don’t move near me’ she said, looking undoubtedly serious. I was caught off guard because that was the last thing I was expecting to hear but without giving in to her threat, I continued moving closer but her words this time around did not just make me numb but also completely weak. ‘I mean it, don’t move any closer’. I was lost and confused because she had personally called earlier to see me. I wouldn’t deny I was a little scared of her sudden request, probably because I was about to hurt her, I just got a girlfriend after a long time.

The question however, has always been why it is difficult to confront her when it is so easy with other girls. I was beginning to think she got to know about my new status before I got to tell her but the question is how? I kept struggling with the thoughts in my head before I heard her burst into laughter, which made me curious but before I got the chance to say anything, she did. ‘I got you, right?’ She said smiling. ‘I farted and didn’t want you smelling it so I decided to use my acting skills on you’ she concluded looking just as creepy as she is.

She got up and said ‘I called to see you because I miss you’, giving me a full hug and a light kiss on my lip. I looked at her completely speechless. With this attitude of hers, I would never let her go. She’s my best friend forever. I thought to myself as I settled on a chair beside her; ‘I missed you more’, I silently muttered.
